Getting to East Africa

This past week has been an incredible experience. East Africa is simply mesmerizing to me. I thought I was prepared to come here, and yet all my planning was tossed out when simply one adventure twist after another continued. It took 63 hours to arrive to Tanzania via 3 continents and I think 6 countries and 3 airlines for what was a 2 plane flight originally. Then of course the backpack never showed up which left me fending simply with the clothes on my back and my camera gear and rain gear plus a light fleece. I spared a bit over 9 hours on arriving in time to rent gear, rely on help from complete strangers and start the trek to Africa’s highest peak, Kilimanjaro. I have hiked in a rain storm, a hail storm and left for the push for summit near midnight while it was snowing. I have worn the same clothes for 9 days, I have had one shower (baby wipes rock!), I simply understand the valued commodity of toilet paper and have more stories than I have time to write today. I summited Kilimanjaro on a beautiful day as the sun rose over Africa. I suffered no altitude sickness, I am one of the very few lucky ones. I  am having an incredible journey, not be philosophical, but it is life changing. I have conquered and achieved a dream and in the same breath I have stood in uncertainty of my safety. The world is a different place past our door steps and it is remarkable.

Signing off for now from Kingori, Tanzania.
